Honduras: The world of the Mayas III - Copan and Roatan Copan, the city of the kings, particularly well-known for their good-received statues (stelen) and the hieroglyphic stairs. Here in Honduras our culture journey ends to the Mayas. In front of us lies the Caribbean island of Roatan, attainable from Trujillo and San Pedro Sula by airplane, before we fly back later from San Pedro Sula to Europe of our round trip. Diving schools in Roatan offer appropriate courses for people interested in also on the neighbour islands. The world view of the Mayas is based on an inseparable triangle: sky, earth and underworld. The accurate observation of the sky served the Mayas for the building of pyramids and temples and for the legitimacy of their power. Did the world of the Mayas ended at the 8 and 9 century without the influence of destructive forces from the outside through astrological determination? Nobody knows it.
