In the country of the Baobab - From Toliara to the island Nosy Boraha
Madagascar - it sounds like a magic word. The name of this enormous spice island in front of the southeast coast of Africa knows each child from the sailor song, which reports of the plague in Germany. Madagascar can be called as a kind of natural monument. After the geological separation of the African ancient continent an endemic animal and plant world developed here. The "Bird Rock" extinct meanwhile belongs to that animals and in addition, Lemurs and Makis, descendant of the common ancestor of today's humans and anthropoids. Quite frequently one meets chameleons, in addition one finds more than 1000 kinds of Orchids. The Baobab, landmark of Madagascar, can store water for dry periods with its peculiar trunk.
The population has African, Indian, Indonesian and in the north above all Arab origin.
Our journey begins in the dry south. From Toliara (Tulear) one reaches in 5 hours Ranohira at the foot of the Isalo mountains. Different kinds of Lemurs can be observed here. In addition more-active routes in the mountains can be offered.
From Fianorantsao a excursion is worthwhile itself to the wooded east coast.
In the Perinet national park between Antanarivo and Toamasina one can hear and see the Indri Indris as well as different kind of Chameleon.
Nosy Boraha (Sainte Marie), an island in the east of the country who can be reached over Toamasina (Tamatave), offers with its numerous beaches recovery and relaxation.
