Venezuela: Country of the Tepuis - on the traces of Alexander of Humboldt Our journey begins by flight from Europe to the island Margarita, of where we change to Cumana on the mainland. By bus it continues to go up to the Brazilian border and from Canaima by flight to Caracas. After following beach vacation we turn from Caracas back to Europe. What concerns the variety of the landscape, Venezuela ranks among the countries favoured by nature. It possesses a long coast, a desert, high mountains, rain forests and desert areas and with the Gran Sabana a singular nature scenery. The most impressive things of this region are the Tepuis, the table mountains. Many of this Tepuis were not entered ever by humans. Between 1982 and 85 several hundred scientists could have listed 25.000 unknown animal and plant types. Cumaná (1521) and Coro (1527) belong to the first establishments of cities on the mainland. In Cumaná entered the German botanic Alexander of Humboldt for the first time the soil of South America. His discoveries led him until Ecuador. The Gran Sabana begins in the place El Dorado, a gold grave settlement whose name promises however much and gives few but reminds on the search the search of the Spaniards, who could never find their El Dorado. Adventure-merry big citizens and in addition the simple population is trying here its luck. After washing the earth consisting the gold with mercury, a poisoned and destroyed landscape stays. Up to the Brazilian border there are 300 km. Several waterfalls, with partially different water colour by the along-washed minerals, can be visited on the way. The Gran Sabana is the homeland of the Pemon Indians. The Roraima Tepui with its fantastique view and its erosion could be discovered in 5 days journey buy foot. Ciudad Bolivar is the organisation and starting point around the journey both into the Gran Sabana and by airplane after Canaima. The Salto Angel Fall -the highest waterfall of the earth (972 meters) - can be achieved with appropriate water level by boat from Canaima. From Canaima there are also flights after Caracas. In the national park Morrocoy between Valencia and Coro Caribbean beaches invites to the conclusion of the journey for bathing.
