Dieter Salomon mayor
Dieter Salomon, the candidate of the Greens for the chief armchair in the city hall of Freiburg succeeded with 65 % of the voices against the candidate of the Christian Party (CDU) in the second vote clearly. In the first vote none of the numerous candidates received the absolute majority. Salomon, which has been so far a state parliament delegate of the Greens in Baden-Wuerttemberg in the federal state parliament of Stuttgart, is thereby the first Green mayor of a larger German city. Freiburg carries since beginning of the 80 years the title: "Capital of Ecology of Germany".

terrorist attacks
A renewed terrorist attack in Kashmir loads the relations of both countries heavily. The committed terrorist attacks of the last time are taken into account of Islamic fundamentalists in Pakistan, which want to reach a separation of Kashmir from India and a return to Pakistan. Relations with the Al Quaida organization is after-said to this fundamentalists, which wants to cause consciously a destabilization of the region.

Citizen assembly for noise protection barrier
In front of numerous listeners the mayor Gerlinde Kleis as well as representative of planning offices and highways department presented the conception of a noise protection in form of a barrier along the national highway. It is planned to establish an earth barrier of 7 meters height and 30 meters width over a length from 1600 meters. For that 250,000 cubic meters building material and soil are needed. The construction period amounts to around 4 years. Kuerzell lies in direct proximity to the highway. Daily are passing around 72,000 vehicles the village. Up to the year 2015 this number rises to around 115,000 vehicles. The present portion of around 30% of lorries and heavy trucks will increase although in the year 2015. With the measure the noise pollution of the place sinks up to a quarter. No costs arise for the municipality except the acquisition of property surfaces.
Gerlinde Kleis is since the 06.12.01 the mayor of the municipality Meissenheim Kuerzell. Since the existence of the department Ortenaukreis (for 50 years) with its approx. 500.000 inhabitants she is the 1 woman on a mayor armchair!! Today after 20 years of the discussion and the "electoral fraud" the first serious attempt, to solve the problem was presented to the citizens of the municipality, from a woman!
Result: Women to power!

attacks of the FARC
Attacks of the FARC, a left-wing oriented Guerrilla organisation on civilian institutions increase since abort of the peace discussions between the government and the Guerrilla. This increase stands also in the connection to the presidency election of 26.05.02. For the European Community the FARC is not so far classified as a organization of terror.
After an incident in the district Choco with 116 dead one can speak of a true Genocide. For the Colombians the FARC is a terror and a criminal group. At 23.05.02 Spain, in its function as a present president of the European community, demands the declaration of the FARC as a terror organization. The European Community should again consider their past position and follow the suggestion of Spain.

Since September 2001 Winfried Schäfer, who is called "red Winnie" here in Germany, is the coach of the national team of Cameroon and thus leader of the "undomesticable lions". This appears as an explosive however so far very successful mixture. In January and February 2002 Cameroon became Africa master. Schäfer was nearly 12 years the coach of the first division club of Karlsruhe in Baden.
He played before 403 first division matches for Moenchengladbach. Winnie was always a gladly-seen guest in the Dreisam stadium of Freiburg. Cameroon participated already 1982, 90,94 and 98 in a World Cup. At the last one did not come over the first round. If the "red Winnie" succeeds to add to the play joy of the lions also German discipline and tactic behaviour the world cup tournament in Japan and Korea could be a great success, and Cameroon could be ranked among the secret favourites.
Germany and Cameroon deny the last play in the first round against each other at 14.06.2002 in the group E. The German national team is not even to be regarded as favourite. For tension is thus ensured.
