With the beginning of the presidency at 07.08.02 of Alvaro Uribe Vélez, lawyer 49 years old, the women received entry into the Ministries. The Ministries of Communication, Culture, Foreign Affaires, Environment and Education are in the hands of women.
The most surprised decision in a country, in which for 30 years a civil war prevails, is the choice of Martha Lucia Ramirez as the Defence Minister. Up to now she was ambassador of Colombia in France and External Trade Minister.

The grey whales of Baja California
You do not know where the journey goes this winter? Here a suggestion: When cold weather starts the grey whales are beginning their annual journey from the arctic Bering Ocean to the Mexican coasts. Between the end of December until March one can observe them in Baja California, particularly in the lagoon Ojo de Liebre. The grey whales reach a size of 13 to 18 meters. Scientists assume now, that the increase of deadly stranding of whales stands in connection with a shift of the magnetic pole. At the end of September were placed different kinds of whale and sharks under protection by the United Nations. The chase and killing of these kinds have been forbidden.

4000 naked in Santiago
Approximately 4000 people undressed themselves on open road in the capital Santiago for the camera of the American photographer Spencer Tunick. The meeting is part of a series of joint naked in the whole world and took also place in Sâo Paulo and Buenos Aires. The opinions over it go far apart between a "act of exposing and liberty of the expression" and a "indecency".

Inauguration of the Pierre Pflimin Rhine bridge
At 10.10.02 the new Rhine bridge between Altenheim-Baden and Eschau-Elsass became open after 4 years of construction period by Erwin Teufel (CDU) Prime Minister from Baden - Wuerttemberg and Gilles de Robien, Traffic Minister of France. The bridge is 968 meters long. The costs of the total project amounted to 66 million Euro. The building is not undisputed, that for the localities of Neuried-Altenheim, Dundenheim and Ichenheim increases the transit traffic on B 36 substantially. One counts on a traffic volume of 14.000 vehicles daily over the bridge.

Inauguration of the wind power plant of Kippenheim
The power plant of Kippenheim produces in the future around 20 per cent of the yearly electricity of the municipality with 5.150 inhabitants. Thus are discharged annually 2000 tons fewer carbon dioxides. Its overall height amounts to 128.5 meters, the rotor diameter to 77 meters. The total costs of the project amount to 1.87 million euro.

intimidation attempts against non-governmental organizations
After a journey to Guatemala Hina Jilani, representative of non governmental organizations for the human rights, explained its concern over the intimidation of human right representatives by groups at the edge of the national-right. The victims are above all members of non-governmental organizations, agricultural workers, judges and lawyers that clears up the crimes against the human rights during the civil war between 1960 and 1996.

Action day against stranger hate
On the UN world summits from Johannesburg were met the following "noncommittal" agreements:
16,000 participants of a meeting against stranger hate and hatred of foreigners prevented an authorized demonstration of the right-wing extremists party NPD at 14.09.02. The demonstrators refused freeing the demonstration way despite request of the police, present with 2000 officials. The members of the NPD had to thus begin their return journey at the station of Freiburg meanwhile the citizens celebrated on numerous meetings their "victory".

Local council meeting
During the local council meeting at 08.10.02 in Kuerzell a new noise appraisal was presented to the planned noise protection at the highway. A 7 meter high barrier would take a noise reduction of 25 - 40 % starting from the village centre to the highway. The planner proceeds from a traffic volume with 72.000 vehicles in the year 2015 and stressed, that like other examples showed, that this noise reduction is doing good on feels.
