World energy hunger

Among the global challenges in the 21 century ranks also the supply of energy beside the fight against poverty and the potable water supply. The world congress of energy in Sydney counts by a 2 % an annual economic growth with a trebling of energy demand in this century. Above all the industry and developing countries such as China, India and Brazil need energy. The drawback: 2 billion humans do not have an entrance to electric current and thus to education and health care. The investment demand for the covering of world energy hunger for the building of plants and power stations is so high that it is hardly to be estimated.

Transatlantic relationship

In Berlin was presented by the order of the German Marshall Fund an inquiry hold in ten European States and the USA under the title "Transatlantic trend 2004".

71 % of the Europeans are the opinion that the European Union beside the USA should become a further superpower. (Germany 73%, France 83%, the USA 41%)

76 % of the Europeans reject the foreign policy of the Bush administration.

80 % of the Europeans mean that the Iraq war was not worth the victims of human lives compared with 50 % of the American.

26 % of the Americans believe that the danger by terrorism decreased after the Iraq war, 49% believe it rose. (Europe: 5% and 72%).

A further inquiry in 35 states of the Canadian polling institute Globescan comes to the result that humans in 30 countries welcome a victory of the democrats at the presidency elections in the USA. Only 4% of the Germans wish themselves a further term of George Bush.

Carbon dioxide output

The world energy hunger has also influence on the future carbon dioxide output. Up to the year 2050, according to a study of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, it could double itself. In the year 2000 the carbon dioxides output amounted to world-wide approximately 8 billion tons. Thus the danger of an increasing climatic change is a further challenge in this century. In the year 1990 were 90 million humans hurt, killed or robbed of their base of life by tempests, forest fires and earthquakes. In the year 2003 there have been 250 million.
